• Our work

Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.

Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.

  • Our vision

As the leading network for diaconal work in Europe, we look to develop dialogue and partnership between members and influence and engage with the wider society.  We do this to enable inclusion, care and empowerment of the most vulnerable and excluded and ensure dignity for all.

  • Our goals

We aim to see a positive social change in Europe through:

Praxis, enabling membership engagement and partnerships

Advocacy, creating a network of competence to impact policies at European and national level

Identity and values, supporting the development of approaches and thinking on Diaconia in Europe today

Work in Partnership

Eurodiaconia is an active member of the Social Platform which represents European NGO networks in the social field, as well as the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN). In 2009 Heather Roy was elected to the Management Committee of the Social Platform and Laura Jones was elected as Vice Chair of the Services of General Interest Working Group.

Eurodiaconia has been an active member of the NGO Spring Alliance coalition. The coalition brought together trade unions, social, development and environmental NGOs and many other actors. The Alliance gained a high profile and its manifesto, designed to influence “Europe 2020” policy discussions, drew interest from key policy makers.

Eurodiaconia is part of the Informal Network of Social Service Providers, which includes Caritas-Europa, CEDAG, EASPD, EPR, FEANTSA, SOLIDAR and Workability Europe. The group addresses issues of particular interest to non-profit social and health care providers.

Eurodiaconia cooperates with Brussels-based ecumenical organisations Aprodev and the Church and Society Commission (CSC) and the Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) of the Council of European Churches (CEC) on issues of common concern, as well as Catholic partners Caritas and COMECE.
