2nd Marginalisation and Social Exclusion Network meeting |
|
23 July 2012
From the 25 - 26th of October, Eurodiaconia is organising its 2nd Marginalisation and Social Exclusion Network of the year. This time we will focus on intra-EU migration and destitution. Over the last few months, a number of Member States have raised the issue concerning EU citizens who have exercised their right to free movement and found themselves destitute in the host country. Whilst numerous EU citizens have made use of their right to free movement and have successfully built up a new life abroad, there is evidence that for some the journey into a better life abroad has been less successful, and for whom mobility has become a poverty trap. Furthermore these EU citizens have been hit hard by the economic and financial crisis which has reduced their access to the labour market. As services for homeless are put under pressure, we ask; what rights do these EU citizens have? What is the correct and effective response as diaconia? What should the EU’s role in addressing this issue be? What should governments be doing at national level?
Members of Eurodiaconia who are working with migrants or who are working to promote the inclusion of EU migrants and their rights are encouraged to attend this meeting which is an open meeting and not restricted to those who have attended previous meetings.
You can download the letter of invitation here and the draft programme here . Members can register online here. Please register before the 14th of September. If you would like to request financial support for your accommodation and/or travel, please read the reimbursement rules beforehand. |

Communications in Diaconia |
|
11 July 2012
On the 25th of June, the PR and Communications Network organised a conference call to discuss communication developments within Diaconia. The new media strategy of Eurodiaconia was presented and members were informed how to actively be part of this new strategy by being able to send media initiatives around the PR and Communications group, have it added to the weekly e-news and when appropriate write a joint press release and have it sent to journalists covering European social news. Members were encouraged to circulate Eurodiaconia's media initiatives as well when this was felt to be appropriate. The group was encouraged to work together and strengthen each other's PR initiatives by informing each other about key PR opportunities.
Members also had the opportunity to give their feedback on the online member and network pages and this feedback will be used to further develop these pages and enhance the profile of our members and the networking between them as well as giving them a practical platform on which they can continue to work together in between their face-to-face meetings.
Finally, members were encouraged to participate in the Eurodiaconia Award which will focus on active ageing through social inclusion. By taking part in it, members can promote their project at EU level and share best practices. A high-level conference is planned on the 4th of December where we will discuss social exclusion of older people, present the Eurodiaconia award and show the photo exhibition ‘Diaconia breaking barriers: valuing the participation of older people to society’. Members interested in entering for the award can find out more about it here or they can contact Laura (
