    Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.

    Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.

Eurodiaconia Member Contacts and Activities for the 2010 European Year

Several members of Eurodiaconia are currently planning activities at national and/or regional levels for the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.

Below is a list of Eurodiaconia member organisations that have either planned or are currently investigating ways to become involved in the 2010 year. Eurodiaconia is a member of the European Anti-Poverty Network (EAPN) which is coordinating NGO involvement in this year. Several Eurodiaconia members are involved in the national branches of EAPN. Many will be particularly active during their country's national focus week.

AUSTRIA

Diakonie Österreich will focus on minimum income, health inequality, child poverty, wealth and inequality, issues of respect and shame, involvement of people experiencing poverty.

A fundraising and awareness-raising campaign entitled "Give me a Chance" will focus on disadvantaged children and young adults, including those with migrant backgrounds.


CZECH REPUBLIC
Diaconia of the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren (DECCB)

Slezská diaconie will work with the Czech branch of the EAPN on activities during the 2010 Czech focus week and the meeting of people experiencing poverty. In addition, they plan to organize a travelling exhibit of photos of people experiencing poverty combined with a presentation and public discussion in about 10 cities and towns where Slezská diaconie is present. They also plan to produce a leaflet, and possibly a DVD, about poverty and social exclusion.


DENMARK

The Danish Diaconal Council and the Council on International Relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Denmark are working together in connection with the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. They have launched the project “churches against poverty” which aims at focusing on the social responsibility of the churches.

The 2010 Finnish Common Responsibility Campaign (Yhteisvastuukeräys - - http://www.yhteisvastuu.fi/) will focus on families with small children living in poverty. This is the largest fundraising campaign in Finland and is supported by major Finnish church and diaconal organisations.

Diakonisches Werk der EKD is planning many activities throughout Germany for the 2010 European Year. It is a member of the German national program committee planning the year and very involved in the German branch of EAPN. The Hungarian Reformed Church is planning cooperation with government and NGOs, will stress the Christian way of thinking on poverty, map new risks of poverty caused by the financial crisis, conferences and research on the changing face of poverty.

Kerk in Actie

Kerk in Actie will conduct research on the individual financial help provided by churches to people experiencing poverty. They will also work through the Arme Kant to create materials and organize debates with churches and politicians on poverty in the Netherlands and how to improve the system. They will provide financial support to local organisations working with people experiencing poverty.

Church City Mission of Oslo is the 2010 coordinating body for the Church of Norway. Its member Batteriet has been asked by the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion to implement two important fora for the 2010 Year: a Collaborative Forum and a Contact Committee. The Collaborative Forum will consist of representatives of different organisations working on poverty to come together quarterly to discuss and raise questions concerning different political and social issues. The Contact Group meets with the Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion, and other relevant Ministers as needed, 3-4 times a year to resolve the questions raised in the Collaborative Forum.

Battereit is a service centre for self-help organisations and individuals who want to work against social exclusion, isolation and poverty in Norway.
