• Our work

Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.

Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.

  • Our vision

As the leading network for diaconal work in Europe, we look to develop dialogue and partnership between members and influence and engage with the wider society.  We do this to enable inclusion, care and empowerment of the most vulnerable and excluded and ensure dignity for all.

  • Our goals

We aim to see a positive social change in Europe through:

Praxis, enabling membership engagement and partnerships

Advocacy, creating a network of competence to impact policies at European and national level

Identity and values, supporting the development of approaches and thinking on Diaconia in Europe today

Eurodiaconia transnational activities for the 2010 EY

last updated 08 February 2010

Eurodiaconia is currently planning four major transnational activities for the 2010 European Year for Combatting Poverty and Social Exclusion:

2010 Eurodiaconia Award (annual award to recognize best practice in diaconal social work) to focus on projects to combat poverty and social exclusion. Click here for more information on the award and entry forms. Entries will be compiled in a best practices in diaconia to combat poverty and social exclusion booklet.

Eurodiaconia Conference on Poverty in Edinburgh, Scotland on 1st June 2010 (more information available soon).

A common Christian understanding of poverty developed with ecumenical partners (Caritas, CEC-CSC, Comece). This ecumenical initiative will be launched by a conference in Brussels in September 2010.

2010 will be the occasion for Eurodiaconia to prepare a website and pamphlet developed in conjunction with the CEC-CSC to help engage congregations and youth in combating poverty on the long term.

Eurodiaconia is also part of theEY2010 NGO Alliance of over 40 European NGO Networks working together during the year to advance policy to combat poverty and social exclusion within the European Union. The group is coordinated by the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) and seeks specifically to:

1) Build understanding of and support for the year's objectives within the participating European networks
2) Build as much consensus as possible across the NGO sector on the outcomes of the year
3) Drive forward key projects for the year
4) Build alliances with other actors to ensure a successful 2010

Specific activities include a common website (www.endpoverty.eu), media activities, political messages and awareness-raising events during two European focus weeks (24-30 May and 11-17 October 2010).
