• Our work

Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.

Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.

  • Our vision

As the leading network for diaconal work in Europe, we look to develop dialogue and partnership between members and influence and engage with the wider society.  We do this to enable inclusion, care and empowerment of the most vulnerable and excluded and ensure dignity for all.

  • Our goals

We aim to see a positive social change in Europe through:

Praxis, enabling membership engagement and partnerships

Advocacy, creating a network of competence to impact policies at European and national level

Our work

Here you will find Eurodiaconia policy and advocacy briefings, press releases, responses to consultations, position papers and other activities of the organisation in the fields of social and employment policy; please use the menu on the left. Social services

Eurodiaconia believes that quality social and health services are vital to the full inclusion of all in society, particularly in times of crisis. Eurodiaconia promotes care that is holistic, tailor-made and empowers individuals to lead dignified lives and has carried out much work on defining and promoting quality in social services.

Eurodiaconia is closely involved in the current debate about these services which is trying to address how to protect quality and accessibility of social services, given that they have a special role in society and have special characteristics. Eurodiaconia analyses the impact of changing modes of funding for services, the impact of tendering and other relevant EU rules and advocates for change where necessary.

Health

Eurodiaconia works on health inequalities, stressing the link between social and health policy and inequalities. Eurodiaconia monitors the development of EU legislation in this area and acts on concerns to ensure all have access to quality Health Services as cross-border provision increases.

Social Exclusion and Poverty

Eurodiaconia is committed to ensuring quality of life for all in a social Europe. Eurodiaconia thus seeks to influence decision-making in European institutions, as well as link activities at local, regional, national and European levels, to combat poverty and social exclusion.

Topics in this section include the 2010 EU Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion and the Open Method of Coordination (OMC) for social inclusion. Eurodiaconia is also starting work on homelessness and child and family poverty.

Other social policies

Eurodiaconia works to promote human dignity and social rights in an evolving European Union – building up a culture of solidarity and justice within responsible, sustainable societies. Eurodiaconia stresses the importance of a strong social dimension of any overarching policy strategy, such as the Lisbon strategy or “Europe 2020”.

In this section you will also find positions on the impact of the financial and economic crisis, the Flexicurity policy approach, demographic change, social rights in the EU and the integrated “Active inclusion” policy.
