• Our work

Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.

Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.

  • Our vision

As the leading network for diaconal work in Europe, we look to develop dialogue and partnership between members and influence and engage with the wider society.  We do this to enable inclusion, care and empowerment of the most vulnerable and excluded and ensure dignity for all.

  • Our goals

We aim to see a positive social change in Europe through:

Praxis, enabling membership engagement and partnerships

Advocacy, creating a network of competence to impact policies at European and national level

Identity and values, supporting the development of approaches and thinking on Diaconia in Europe today

Last week, Eurodiaconia and EDYN held a joint conference on “volunteering as a means to fight social exclusion in Europe today”. The event started with an interesting panel discussion including panellist MEP Marian Harkin and moderated by Pavel Trantina from the European Economic and Social Committee. The panel was followed John McDonald, head the EYV2011 Task Force of the European Commission who gave an overview of the activities from EYV2011.  A global café exercise followed where participants could meet and discuss around tables the main challenges in volunteering and social exclusion. The last speaker of the conference was Mr Pascale Lejeune from DG Education and Culture of the European Commission who spoke about the future of the Youth in Action programme and in particular EVS (European Voluntary Service).

The Eurodiaconia Award was presented on Monday evening by Eurodiaconia Board members Romana Belova and Davide Rosso. For more on this reception, see here.

The second day began with a reflection on the Biblical perspective of volunteering by Jacob Franken from the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. Participants then attended a double session of workshops led by member organisations of Eurodiaconia and EDYN.

A full report on this event will be available to download soon.

Presentations:
 John McDonald, Head the Task Force for the EYV2011, European Commission: “Stocktaking of EYV2011 and its legacy”
