Eurodiaconia links diaconal actors to examine social needs, develop ideas and influence policies impacting Poverty and Social Exclusion, Social and Health Care Services and the Future of Social Europe.
Eurodiaconia also provides a platform for transnational networking and best practice sharing.
As the leading network for diaconal work in Europe, we look to develop dialogue and partnership between members and influence and engage with the wider society. We do this to enable inclusion, care and empowerment of the most vulnerable and excluded and ensure dignity for all.
We aim to see a positive social change in Europe through:
Praxis, enabling membership engagement and partnerships
Advocacy, creating a network of competence to impact policies at European and national level
Identity and values, supporting the development of approaches and thinking on Diaconia in Europe today

15 February 2012 (see e-newsletter #122 for the first part of the editorial) ...That is why Eurodiaconia will call for the Food Aid programme to be continued after 2013 and a sound legal basis found for the programme along with adequate funding. But we will also fight any moves to make it part of other anti poverty and social exclusion programmes where it could reduce funding for long term, trans-formative programmes that will enable people to lift themselves out of poverty and exclusion. We know many of our members feel the same way and we are pleased that some of you have contacted us to look at how we can work together. Over the coming weeks we will be putting together some ideas. One last thought: a lot of the debate is about if and how we can keep the Food Aid programme, and although I understand that we have this debate, I also think we need to have a debate about why, in Europe, in 2012, we still need to provide food to a substantial number of people every day - if we had a more socially just Europe, truly built on values of solidarity, inclusion and just distribution of resources, we could hopefully eventually phase out Food Aid - that should be our ultimate goal.. but that was not the discussion in the European Parliament this week.
