Empowering Women Across Borders
From 2–4 September, Eurodiaconia was warmly welcomed by Diakonia ECRH and the Lutheran Church in Zagreb for a visit highlighting inspiring initiatives on women’s empowerment and community cohesion.
Diakonia ECRH is leading a multi-year, cross-border project on women in leadership, pastoral roles, and community care, engaging women from Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia. Alongside this, they actively support Croatian associations working on gender equality and community development.
As part of the visit, Eurodiaconia met with Udruga Elim (Evangeličko legradsko inkluzivno mjesto) in Legrad, a municipality in northern Croatia near the Hungarian border. The community centre there, run largely by volunteers, offers activities such as exercise groups for women and creative camps for children. Udruga Elim is eager to expand its services through new partnerships.
The visit also included two NGOs supported by Diakonia ECRH through volunteering and spiritual care: Women’s Association Hera, an association providing legal support and shelter to women and children victims of VAW in Koprivnica-Križevci county and Christian NGO House of Hope (Udruga Dom nade) operating a day center for the homeless in Zagreb.
Diakonia ECRH is striving to support strengthening communities and creating inclusive spaces for women, children, and vulnerable people.
