Our member in Kosovo, Diakonie Kosovo, is circulating its second ‘Freundesbrief’ or newsletter to friends and partners, where it highlights its recent activities in Mitrovica.
The latest newsletter gives information on the organization’s recent activities. These include the training initiatives implemented through the Diakonie Training Center, which helps people develop skills to access the labour market. The update also says farewell to its three German volunteers who had been supporting the organisation and enriching the team, and three new arrivals to continue their work. It also shares its news about how new young people are coming to join the Urban Dance Crew, and the team are working hard to welcome the new starters.
Also, in October, new members of Diakonie Kosovo’s Youth Board and several other participants went to a Peace Weekend. The goal of this event was to strengthen tolerance between different ethnic groups, including minorities groups such as the Roma and Ashkali, who suffer prejudice and discriminated in Kosovo. Ongoing collaboration has continued between Diakonie Kosovo and the parish of Lennep and the parish of Hilgen-Neuenhaus in Germany. The work done in the parishes is exemplary in its work with refugees and helps and supports returnees and integration work in Kosovo. This complements the work done by Diakonie Kosovo at the Training Center and the Psychosocial Center for Trauma Therapy, where a focus is on helping returnees support themselves and their families. They believe that only in this way can the causes of migration be tackled.
More information on recent activities and initiatives implemented by Diakonie Kosovo and their partners can be found in their newsletter.
