Early today, Eurodiaconia published its latest Assessment of the 2020 Winter Package.
In May, the European Commission will publish this year’s country-specific recommendations, marking the last stage of the 2020 European Semester cycle. These recommendations provide policy guidance tailored to each EU country on how to boost jobs and growth while maintaining sound public finances. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital that these recommendations focus on spending on social investments.

This position paper assesses the Country Reports published as part of the Winter Package on 27th February 2020. It gives a general assessment and a country-specific one, based on the input of Eurodiaconia members. Throughout the Semester cycle, Eurodiaconia consults our members in order to determine the degree to which the Semester output reflects the situation in their own countries. This paper provides the opportunity to assess whether the input Eurodiaconia has provided during the year has been taken into account in the drafting of the Winter Package.

Eurodiaconia will hold a webinar on 28th May at 11 am – 12 pm outlining this year’s recommendations, explaining how members can engage in the process in Brussels and how to use their own country’s recommendations for their own advocacy at the national level.
