Our partner EU Alliance for Investing in Children has released a statement calling on the European Commission and individual Member States to eradicate child poverty with the help of the Child Guarantee.

Today, one in four children is at risk of poverty or social exclusion, which is almost 23 million children across Europe. The Child Guarantee is an initiative which aims to address this issue by supporting vulnerable children such as those with disabilities, living in institutional care, in migration, of single-parents or large families and Roma children and ensuring that they have access to essential social rights.

Eurodiaconia welcomes the Alliance’s proposal and joins the call to secure the adoption of the Child Guarantee Council Recommendation within 2020 which will allow for the actions to be included in the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework 2021-2027 and in the financial programming of individual Member States.

For more information, please consult the full text of the joint statement.

Eurodiaconia continues its advocacy work with an Extreme Destitution Network Meeting taking place from 25 – 26 March 2020 in Reykjavík, Iceland. The meeting will focus on child and family poverty while also linking it to the access to financial services. We will also discuss the Child Guarantee to further build momentum and help launch the framework within 2020.
