Our Polish member Diakonia Kosciola is celebrating this week the 20th anniversary of its foundation. For the occasion, a jubilee service and a conference will take place on Saturday the 26th of October in Warsaw.

The events will give local participants and international guests the chance to reflect on the achievements and the challenges of Diakonia Kosciola, as well as the impact of social services on the population in modern Poland.

The conference will include a high-level lecture by Prof. René Krüger on the “Social integration of the people on the margins in the light of Lk 14, 12-14: Deacon as a testimony of Christ“, a presentation on the importance of diaconal service provision in Poland, as well as a panel discussion on modern diaconia.

The provision of diaconal services in the Lutheran Church of Poland was reestablished in 1993. In 1999, Diakonia Kosciola granted the status of legal entity. The organization is a member of Eurodiaconia since 2003.

Diakonia Kosciola provides different services to people in need in Poland such as family support, nursing homes, schools, centres for people with disabilities and natural disasters response. The organisation is also actively involved in international volunteering programs and constantly cooperates with local authorities and charity organisations.

Our Secretary General Heather Roy will take part in the celebrations on behalf of the entire network.
