The International Society for the Research and Study of Diaconia and Christian Social Practice (ReDi) is hosting its 8th International ReDi conference on Christian Social Practice and Diaconia as a one-day digital event scheduled to take place on the 17th of September 2020.

The organisers invite interested parties to reflect on the theme “Diaconia as Gamechanger? Leadership of Service in Times of Crisis, Complexity and Transformation“. Specifically, professionals and students are invited to contemplate on how diaconal organisations and churches meet contemporary challenges such as climate deterioration, uneven economic development and demographic changes.

As part of the preparations for the event ReDi has launched a call for papers related to the eight thematic sessions of the conference and invites specifically contributors from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia/Oceania. The eight thematic sessions are as follows:

1.) Reinventing the Role of Leadership in Innovating Diaconia

2.) Youth, Diaconia and the Global Crises

3.) Drifting Apart? Diaconal Responses to the Demographic Developments, Forced Migration, Crisis of Solidarity and Democracy

4.) Biblical and Theological Paradigms for a Game-changing Diaconia

5.) Female leadership in church and faith-based institutions – past, present and future

6.) Towards a Transforming Diaconia Spirituality

7.) Christian Social Practice Research Methodologies

8.) Open Session: Miscellaneous Papers

The deadline for submission of abstracts is until the 29th of June 2020. The abstract should not exceed 200 words and should indicate which paper session it aims to contribute to. The acceptance of the papers will be sent on 2 July 2020.

Registration for the event opens on the 1st of July 2020.
