Our Slovakian member Evanjelická diakonia ECAV na Slovensku joined forces with our Ukrainian member Living Hope to host young Ukrainian volunteers within the European Solidarity Corps framework.

The project, titled “Make a difference – give the dignity”, is co-financed by the European Union and focuses on the dignity and care of the elderly, who are often pushed at the margins of society and are at high risk of social exclusion. The project aims to ‘upskill’ young people, giving them experience on how to improve the quality of life for seniors in residential care homes and person-centered approaches to support elderlies with disabilities.

Thanks to the European Solidarity Corps initiative, our member Evanjelická diakonia ECAV na Slovensku has been able to host and supervise for almost a year two young volunteers sent by our Ukrainian member Living Hope.

Over the last 10 months, the two young volunteers Daniil and Yurii have been working at the Evangelical Diaconia (CED) in Bratislava, providing invaluable support and reassurance to the elderly hosted in the nursing home and their families. Daniil and Yurii’s tasks at CED included: essential nursing care; food distribution; participation in group therapies and moral assistance.

The European Solidarity Corps brings together young people to build a more inclusive society, supporting vulnerable people and responding to societal challenges. It offers an inspiring and empowering experience for young people who want to help, learn, and develop.
