Our partner, the World Council of Churches (WCC), attended the 109th International Labour Conference, which took place from the 7th to the 19th of June. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 109th Conference was held online for the first time.

The annual meeting of the International Labour Conference was at the “parliament” of the Geneva-based International Labour Organization. Rev. Matthew Ross, the WCC programme executive for Diakonia and Capacity Building, remarked how important it is for churches to engage in this process: “The issue of decent and fair work – particularly in the challenges arising from COVID-19 – is of crucial importance. This gathering gives national governments, employers’ and trades unions an important opportunity to discuss social justice and employment. With input from churches and others, this is an opportunity to promote fairness, good practices and social justice globally for the benefit of all.”

In Eurodiaconia we share WCC’s views. This is why we are constantly advocating for access to decent, quality, and fair jobs for everyone, including those that are usually left behind. You can discover more about our work on this area in our thematic page.
