Yesterday, Tuesday the 24th of April, our partner Social Services Europe (SSE) presented its position paper on the key role of social services in the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

The position paper was presented during a debate organised by SE in the European Parliament, hosted by MEP Georgi Pirinski (S&D group) . In a productive discussion with MEPs and EP staff, Commission representatives, the Social Protection Committee and civil society, Social Services Europe explained how social services contribute to upholding at least 10 of the social rights in the EPSR and presented recommendations on how services should be supported to play this role.

In particular, Eurodiaconia Secretary General Heather Roy presented the paper main focus, how to engage on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights. “We should go out of the hierarchical model – siad Ms Roy – that brings always first the economy and stability and last social policies: they go hand-to-hand. The 20 principles are of great ambition and 10 out of 20 principles cannot be achieved without social services: that means we need to invest in financing those services and improving the policies“.
