From 11 to 12 May 2017, Eurodiaconia held a two-day network meeting in Vienna to discuss existing challenges associated with healthy ageing and long-term care in Europe and the role of social services in addressing these issues. The conference was hosted by Eurodiaconia member Diakonie Österreich and was attended by member organizations from Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia. The aim of the event was to share initiatives and innovative practice on long-term care services for elderly people, including people with dementia and disabilities. It also aimed to inform members about recent initiatives at EU level related to healthy ageing and long-term care, and shape messages towards policy makers at EU, national and local levels on why quality and sustainable long-term care systems are necessary for individuals and communities as a whole.
