group foto_Sustainable Development Goals and the Church conference_ ArmeniaEarly this month, our member Armenian Round Table Foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and the World Council of Churches, hosted a conference titled “Sustainable Development Goals and the Church.”

The conference took place in Tsakhkadzor and saw the participation of more than 50 attendees, including clergymen of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Program Officers of the Armenia Round Table Foundation, partners and stakeholders.

The event focusing on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the contribution of the churches in their implementation, was intended to generate knowledge, skills, and familiarity among those involved with the SDGs, making them able to design strategies to participate in their implementation.

The role of the Churches in the implementation of the sustainable goals is highly recognised by the international community, thanks to their knowledge of local communities and their moral and inspiring role in society.

The 17 SDGs, included in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The objectives, adopted by world leaders in 2015, include poverty, hunger reduction, health promotion, quality education, equality of rights of women and men, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure development, elimination of inequalities, establishment of sustainable communities, responsible consumption, climate protection, life below water and on land, peace-building and co-operation.
