On 13 April, our partner, the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) released the statement “One year after: What place for social, ecological and contributive justice in the EU recovery package?”. The declaration – prepared by COMECE’s Social Affairs Commission- analyses some of the achievements of the European Union towards social justice since COVID-19 hit the EU. It also includes concrete proposals for more solidarity in the recovery process.

Furthermore, the statement calls for a European Union of solidarity, where people in precarious situations and isolation are fully included and where individualistic trends are tackled to put human dignity back at the centre. Likewise, COMECE welcomes the EU recovery package and urges all Member States to fulfil their commitment of July 2020 and to encourage all economic actors, and in particular multinationals companies, to participate in the fair recovery effort.

Eurodiaconia has also been calling for a fair and socially inclusive recovery that truly leaves no one behind. To know more about Eurodiaconia’s views on the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the 2021 European Semester, you can read this report.
