At the end of last year, our Czech member Diakonie Českobratrská Církev Evangelická organised a Christmas campaign to collect and distribute presents for children from low-income families. Through the initiative, 35,431 gifts wrapped up in shoe boxes were collected and almost one million Czech crowns were raised, making it one of the most successful social campaigns ever in the Czech Republic.

A few weeks before Christmas, Diakonie ČCE launched an online fundraising platform inviting the general public to make a small donation of toys, school and art supplies, as well as other personal accessories. To assist potential contributors as much as possible, Diakonie ČCE’s staff had created a detailed guide with the most appropriate gifts for boys and girls of different ages. The donated presents were later distributed in various shelters and community centers bringing joy to unsuspecting children.

The additional monetary donations raised during the campaign will be distributed among seven different projects run by the organisation. The projects are aimed at improving the lives of children from low-income families or families which are at risk of social exclusion. In particular, resources will be allocated to providing meals and therapy sessions for families in crisis and teenagers.

In the Czech Republic Diakonie ČCE is one of the principal providers of social services, helping groups at risk of poverty and social exclusion through various initiatives and facilities.
