On the 5th of May, our Slovakian member Evanjelická diakonia ECAV na Slovensku joined the global initiative #GivingTuesdayNow by planning a little surprise for the elderly hosted in their nursing homes.
Diakonia ECAV asked its Facebook followers and members of the Evangelical Church in Slovakia to pick up a fairy tale of their choice and record themselves while reading it aloud. The recordings were then projected in 7 different nursing homes run by our member to keep the elderly company and comfort them during these hard times.
In Slovakia, as in many other parts of Europe, Nursing homes have been asked by local authorities to ban visits from friends and family and to keep residents indoors in an effort to stem the spread of coronavirus. Those measures have inevitably had an impact on the elderly by increasing their feeling of loneliness.
Our member Diakonia ECAV is putting in all the effort not only to keep the elderly safe but also to create an even more cheerful space for its residents.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving, solidarity, and unity that took place last Tuesday– in addition to the regularly scheduled #GivingTuesday taking place in December 2020 – as an emergency response to COVID-19.
