Our Finnish member Helsinki Deaconess Institute has partnered with a popular Nordic pizza chain to provide free pizzas to those in need.

As part of the initiative young people in difficult life situations, children with developmental disabilities and young people in the Institute’s Rinnekodi housing units received 1900 pizzas free of charge. The tasty surprise was intended not only as nourishment for the bodies of the children and the youths but also as an occasion for a small chat and social interaction between the beneficiaries amid the difficult quarantine times.

The initiative is part of a larger campaign named #GivingTuesdayNow which aims to encourage volunteering and donations in the challenging times of COVID-19.

The Deaconess Institute works with some of the most vulnerable people in the Helsinki metropolitan area and at another 20 locations nationwide.
