On the 16th of November Eurodiaconia, along with its partners Caritas Europa and Caritas Sweden, as well as its member in Sweden Svenska Kyrkan (Church of Sweden)will hold a joint press conference on the role of the Social Pillar in addressing the causes of youth poverty in Europe.  

The press conference will take place from 9.30am to 10.15am at the World Culture Museum of Gothenburg (SE), ahead of the 2017 Gothenburg Social Summit, and will see the participation of:

 

 

  • Allan Larsson, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s special adviser on the European Pillar of Social Rights;
  • Jorge Nuño Mayer, Secretary General of Caritas Europa;
  • Heather Roy, Secretary General of Eurodiaconia;
  • Bishop Per Eckerdal, Diocese of Gothenburg, Svenska Kyrka

The Social Summit for fair jobs and growth will gather heads of State and government, social partners and other key players to work together on a more social Europe and to promote fair jobs and growth.

The European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) is the European Commission’s initiative to strengthen the social rights of all persons legally residing on EU territory. The final version was launched on 26th April 2017 and contains 20 principles that aim at making already existing social rights more effective, while also providing the foundation to further development and deepening of these rights. The publication of the EPSR was accompanied by several other documents, including two staff working documents and one legal proposal.
