The European Commission has recently commissioned a feasibility study that will map existing initiatives on feasibility and added value of private sponsorship schemes as a possible pathway to safe channels for admission to the EU, including resettlement.

The study, funded by the European Commission and implemented by ICF in partnership with the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), aims at providing a mapping of existing initiatives on private sponsorship schemes in the EU and in Dublin Associated States and will assess the added value and feasibility of establishing, developing and promoting sponsorship schemes in the EU.

The survey is designed for stakeholders currently operating, having concluded or considered the establishment of sponsorship schemes or programmes and its purpose is to collect data that will feed into the study, gathering information on:

  • existing national initiatives,
  • the added value and feasibility of establishing, developing, and promoting sponsorship schemes in the EU;
  • perspectives on possibilities for future sponsorship initiatives in the EU;
  • and potential challenges and best practices in the establishment of sponsorship schemes at national and EU level.
