Crossreach-LogoOur Scottish member CrossReach, along with Counselling & Psychotherapy in Scotland-COSCA and Edinburgh Napier University, has launched the 2017 Course on Counselling Skills.

The course is for people who use counselling skills working or volunteering in business, industry, the caring professions and the public sector, and also for people who are considering counselling as a career. On successful completion of all four modules, participants will be awarded the Certificate in Counselling Skills by COSCA. This training is provided within the COSCA Code of Ethics and Practice and is led by a COSCA accredited trainer who practices as a counsellor and supervisor within the Tom Allan Centre.

On completion of this course participants will:

  • Be able to use a counselling approach when working with women & their families affected by Perinatal Mental Health issues
  • Understand issues that contribute to Perinatal Mood Disorders
  • Understand the emotional impact that may affect the practitioner when working with difficult issues and learn how to manage this
  • Be able to explain what selfawareness means and why it is essential in using a counselling approach
  • Develop skills as a reflective practitioner in order to determine parent’s needs whilst being aware of your own capabilities and limitations
  • Enhance own ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Share information and receive mutual support l Feel confident to work ethically in the area of Perinatal Mental Health

The course consists of 4 modules in total, consisting of 6 sessions each, and it will take place at Tom Allan Centre in Glasgow from January to April 2017.
