You are kindly invited to an online information session “European Child Guarantee: Can we break the vicious cycle of child poverty together” organised by the European Commission in cooperation with Unicef in the context of the European Week of Regions and Cities on 12th October from 16:00-17:00 CET.

The online session will explain the aim and the functioning of the European Child Guarantee, which aims to prevent and combat social exclusion by guaranteeing the access of children in need to a set of key services: early childhood education and care, education (including school-based activities and a healthy meal each school day), healthcare, healthy nutrition and adequate housing. The information session will feature examples on how good cooperation between various governance levels can bring real change in the lives of children in need.

Background

About one in four children in the EU live in a household that is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Poverty has a negative impact on children’s health, social and emotional development, behaviour, and educational outcomes. The European Child Guarantee adopted by the Council in June 2021, asks the EU Member States to guarantee an effective access of children in need to a set of key services. The Member States should submit their action plans for implementation of the child guarantee. EU funding to support these actions, in particular from the European Social Fund Plus, is available for the Member States.
