Our Spanish member Diaconia España has recently opened a new shelter for women and children victims of human trafficking named Proyecto Espejo.
The new shelter is part of a wider national programme called #ROMPELACADENA launched by Diaconia Spain in 2014 to tackle human trafficking in its different forms. In particular, our member’s project focuses on trafficked women and their children. Sadly an increasing trend in Spain.
Diaconia España, along with other two partner organisations, has been chosen by the authorities to pursue the implementation of a new protocol aimed at offering support to women potential victims of trafficking that seek asylum when arriving at Madrid Barajas Airport.
Proyecto Espejo, as part of #ROMPELACADENA, aims to be a safe environment for rest and reflection in which women and their children are assisted by a large team of professionals. The staff includes social workers, psychologists, legal advisers, and cultural mediators.
In all Diaconia España’s shelters part of the #ROMPELACADENA network in Spain, strict security protocols are put in place, including 24/7 security service.
