Our partner Churches’ Commission for Migrants in Europe is organising a conference titled ”Justice for Roma and Sinti: a challenge for churches” due to take place in Budapest on the 9-11 of March.

The conference follows a number of previous events which recognised the low visibility and attention within the church to Roma and Sinti as part of the common household of God. It was agreed that there is a need for churches to create spaces for face-to-face interactions with Roma/Sinti where they can share life stories, culture and worship.

This conference aims to give voice to the Roma/Sinti’s expectations of churches to improve their inclusion; to take stock of the churches’ participation in the legitimisation and the practice of discrimination against Roma/Sinti; to foster exchange of good practices in the confession of the discrimination of Roma/Sinti in church history; to discuss steps to promote positive Roma/Sinti narratives within the churches and society.

The organisers wish to invite 20-25 international participants to join their Hungarian colleagues and exchange views on the issues mentioned above in a church context. The deadline for applications is on the 10th of February.
