Every year, students, parents and teachers of Evangelical Primary School in Bratislava organize an Advent Bazaar part of the proceeds of which goes to supporting social projects. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to hold the event this year, but the desire to support the socially vulnerable remained strong. Hence, the Parents’ Board, represented by Ms. Maria Šebestová, decided to launch “How much love can fit in a shoe box“, a project whereby people willing to donate were invited to buy presents and put them in shoe boxes. Afterwards, the school turned to Evanjelicka diakonia na Slovensku ECAV for advice and assistance with bringing the gift boxes to vulnerable children.

The project was met with great response from both the gifted and the givers. One of the school children commented that the day the gift boxes were delivered to vulnerable children “was my most beautiful school day.” The partners look forward to the idea being adopted by and spread among other organizations, so that love can reach more and more people who find themselves in a difficult life situation.
