To reskill and upskill the EU health workforce, comprising 15 million people working in health occupations, the European Health Management Association (EHMA) with the support of the European Commission and other partners in the health sector, has launched a new ‘Pact for Skills’ partnership.

The partnership will develop and implement a European skills strategy for the health workforce and training programs for health professionals, focusing particularly on digital and green skills. It recognizes the need to address the labour and skills shortages challenge faced by the healthcare sector. The initiative will contribute to equipping the health workforce with skills needed to tackle future challenges and to help deliver better care for patients.

Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit and Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides welcomed the new partnership against the background of the European Year of Skills 2023, which aims to empower people to successfully engage in the labour market and in society and democracy. Furthermore, the Pact for Skills is one of the flagship initiatives under the European Skills Agenda.
