Our member in Latvia, Diakonija Lavtija (Diaconia Latvia) is providing material support in the form of clothing, shoes and household items to vulnerable people in Riga.
Since November 17th, Diakonija Latvija has been supporting socially disadvantaged groups in its Drēbju kamera (Changing Rooms) project, by distributing material aid and clothing to low-income families, the homeless and the social excluded. People in need can come to the center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 14.00 to 17.00, where they can receive practical support and materials in the form of clothing, footwear and household items. The initiative is being run by Diakonija Latvia and is co-financed by the Riga City Council Welfare Department.
Those who wish to donate to the Changing Rooms collection, child and adults clothes, footwear, household and household items are being gathered. Children’s toys, school supplies, men’s and women’s clothing and footwear, and kitchen and household accessories are also all accepted. Diakonija Latvija just ask that donations are clean, intact and useable. The project wants to make the less advantaged people happy with clothes and materials, and will therefore not accept dirty, tattered and worn-out clothing and shoes, damaged dishes, or torn books.
Donations can be made at LELD Diaconia Center, Daugavgrivas Street 1, Riga every working day from 9:00 to 17:00.
More information on the Changing Rooms project and how to get involved can be found on the website.
