Whilst youth unemployment has reached high levels across Europe in general, young Roma face a particularly challenging situation when it comes to accessing the labour market. The Youth Guarantee is an initiative of the European Commission to curb the high levels of unemployment amongst young persons below the age of 25. Whether registered with employment services or not, the Youth Guarantee aims to ensure that all young persons receive a good-quality offer for a job, an apprenticeship, a traineeship or continued education within the first 4 months of being unemployed.

The ERGO Network, in cooperation with member and partner organisations, has recently carried out research into the impact of the Youth Guarantee on young Roma in six EU countries: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Spain. The aim was to investigate whether the Youth Guarantee is successful in reaching out to and creating meaningful opportunities for young Roma. To read the synthesis note, please click here.
