On the occasion of the 11th forum on the rights of the child, Eurodiaconia co-signs a statement on ending child immigration detention with other European, international and civil society actors.

The statement was developed by the Initiative for Child Rights in the Global Compacts, comprised of UN agencies and bodies, global, European and national organisations. It welcomes the European Commission’s step to focus its European Forum on the Rights of the Child to the topic of children deprived of their liberty.

The statement calls for the end of children’s detention and the promotion of alternatives to detention. It also calls upon EU governments to take immediate steps towards ending child immigration detention, ensuring alternatives to detention are accessible and available. All of Europe’s children deserve care and protection, regardless of their migration status. Let’s work together to end child detention.

The actions and alternatives envisaged by all who co-signed the statement and who work for children’s rights and liberties can be found in the full statement document.
