AufbaugildeOn the 21st of March, Eurodiaconia conducted, together with EUROCITIES and the European Social Network, a side event on Long Term Unemployment at this year’s Annual Convention for Inclusive Growth organized by the European Commission.

The focus of the side event lay on how multi-stakeholder co-operation should be promoted in order to boost integrated approaches to the inclusion of long-term unemployed persons. In this regard, it addressed one of the key points contained in the Recommendation on the reintegration of the long-term unemployed, which was adopted by the Council of the European Union last 9 December. Eurodiaconia’s response to the recommendation can be found here.

The three organisations showed some good practices of integrated approaches to long term unemployment from their members. From the Eurodiaconia side, Holger Fuhrmann and Monika Weidner from the Aufbaugilde Heilbronn gGmbH – an organisation integrated in Diakonie Baden-Württemberg-  presented their work on integrating disadvantaged persons into  labour markets. The Aufbaugilde aims to give an organised day structure and support jobless people in all their personal needs from a holistic perspective, as solving long term unemployment goes well beyond putting people back to work.

Eurodiaconia will further discuss the issue of long-term unemployment at its forthcoming Breakfast Debate, which will take place on 20 April in Brussels.
