Late last month, our member Kirkens Bymisjon (Church City Mission) published a new report on migrant worker conditions in Oslo. Sadly, the report portrays miserable working and living conditions for a huge part of them.
The majority of the so called ‘’vulnerable migrants’’ arrived in Norway as asylum seekers or to search for a job. They belong to different ethnic and religious background, and they come from Africa, the Middle-East and Europe (mainly Eastern and Mediterranean).
These people can count on the daily support of the Kirkens Bymisjon help centres in town. The publication gathers together their stories and life experiences collected from volunteers and staff members.
The most urgent issues vulnerable migrants have to face in Oslo are the exploitative working conditions (in same cases slavery and human trafficking), as well as poor and overcrowded accommodation household, and lack access to basic healthcare for people with serious health problems.
