Sweden City Missions recently released the report “The city’s poor – a report on Sweden’s City Mission and poverty”. In cooperation with Magnus Karlsson, associate professor at the Ersta Sköndal University College, Sweden seven City Missions compiled data about what Swedish poverty looks like in reality. The experiences gained by the City Mission’s social services and activities that are now compiled in this year’s poverty report make clear that poverty has risen more than the official statistics show.
Among the poorest of the Swedish society, EU mobile citizens and undocumented migrants do not have access to the welfare state, but also a growing number of Swedish citizens fall into destitution because of decreasing public support and rising social inequalities.
