As an organisation working for social justice, we at Eurodiaconia think people with disabilities have the right to access information that is easy to read and understand.
According to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the accessibility to communications technologies, including the Web, is a basic human right. As a matter of fact, free access to information gives them the chance to know their rights and make their own choices, in order to actively take part in society.
Ensuring that knowledge is shared equally among people of all backgrounds is for us a moral obligation, as well as part of our daily activity. That is why we have been implementing the necessary changes to our website to ensure a more inclusive web experience for people with a diverse range of hearing, and cognitive ability.
The main changes will be to add an easy-to-read presentation as well as an introduction video in International Sign Language-I.S.L. easily accessible on our home page.
This is only a first small step forward towards the inclusive practice of removing barriers that prevent access to our website by people with disabilities.
